The Pros and Cons of Scuba Diving
One of the things that you would definitely want to try out when you are on vacation on some beach resort that features several dive sites is to go on a scuba diving adventure. Scuba diving is considered as one of the best leisure sports that anyone should indulge in if they have the opportunity to do so. In fact, it has become quite popular that most beach resorts actually have dive shops where you can rent diving gear for that exciting underwater exploration. However, just like any sport, it also has its own sets of benefits and disadvantages.
There are a lot of advantages that you can get from habitual scuba diving and one of these is in the form of health benefits. As you well know, swimming is one of the most efficient ways to give your body a full workout that it needs. So try to imagine yourself swimming underwater, with the presence of water pressure, and all those equipment strapped to your body and you may have a fair idea of what kind of workout you would be giving your body.
Another advantage with diving is that you increase your emotional well-being, that is, you will learn how to efficiently relax and let go of all that stress while swimming underwater. With constant diving, you also increase your ability to concentrate and focus on the task at hand. These various combinations are very useful when applied to your professional and personal life.
Scuba diving, however, also has its share of disadvantages, which could even sometimes prove fatal to the diving enthusiast. Scuba diving, though considered a leisure sport, may turn out to be a dangerous endeavor for the inexperienced. There are so many things that you have to follow, particularly if you are a beginner. One of these is preventing your urge to quickly ascend to the surface because you would just be opening your body to the risk of incurring a decompression sickness which could do some serious injuries.
Another disadvantage is the high risk of nitrogen narcosis. Although nitrogen narcosis is not lethal in itself, it can cause the diving enthusiast to lose focus of their surroundings and may feel secured even when faced with critically dangerous situations. Other disadvantages of diving include the financial aspect which may be quite burdensome for some considering you need at least five hundred dollars to get proper training and another fifty dollars a day to rent a gear. There is also the physical aspect of the gear which you may find a bit heavy when you are not underwater.
In the end, however, it will be your decision whether you want to push ahead with your planned scuba diving adventure. If upon weighing everything and you find that it will benefit you more, then go ahead and enjoy that dive now.
